Lack of support for Vets

Many years have passed since the Vietnam war and has faded from public memory. Many fine young children gave there lives in this tragic war and others returned home damaged and uncompensated dying in poverty, or prison suffering and forgotten.

The VA now admits that the cause of some of there distress was agent orange. Financial help has now become available after lo these many years. Over two hundred thousand vets will now be compensated. They deserve every penny they get. How long will it take to recognize the damage being done to today's vets by repeated deployments and how do we as a nation compensate them and what will the cost be ?

The tax payers will be paying for that war for years to come and our children will be paying for Bushes two wars. At a time when the national debt is being touted as horror remember what was a major contributor.

I don't know, but I do know that we all forgot about the vets from the Korean conflict until MASH came out and then we thought it was like the movie or TV show, but Korea was a little slice of hell. I hope we never forget our Vets again, but I have a feeling that it will happen after all is said and done.

Once the onset of symptoms of cancer from Agent Orange, the Viet Vet usually has a prognosis of 24 months. They don't get Purple Hearts or put on the Vietnam Wall.

It is a sad commentary that those who served paid the ultimate price and are not remembered better. The cost of a Purple heart, a name on the Wall is such a small token of remembrance.
The injuries sustained in these vile wars by our men and women will too I'm afraid be forgotten. The public this time around ignored paying for the war at all using special allotments and borrowing from China to fund it. Anyone that was serving in congress that voted for war should be voted out of office.

On the money there! When somebody puts on that uniform and gives years of his or her life, if not the rest of it in the ultimate sacrifice, to defend the freedom and liberties of the rest of us, there are few considerations I can think of that should not be extended to them. They serve at pathetic pay, in frequently harsh and unforgiving environments, normally away from their family and loved ones, and do so proudly. This Country should be ashamed of the way that they are treated while serving and when they finally hang up those uniforms and return to civilian life. The Government just increased their co-pays for health care???? Inexcusable! And we all know how poorly those who did their duty and served in Vietnam were treated.

I am glad to see that we learned the lesson from that in spirit. It would be nice to see that spirit backed up with concrete benefits. It is time that some of the trillions going to defense contractors gets diverted to provide proper support and benefits to the men and women who serve.....during and after their service!

Politicians have no problem giving themselves health care and retirement benefits that are the worlds best but then increased their co-pays. This GOP cost cutting is looking in all the wrong directions.

Becks what was your first clue?? The Congress is willing to vote itself a raise in the middle of a recession and to give themselves a better than average healthcare plan, but to the rest of America they say F You. I say we vote 'em out and start over, how 'bout you run for congress.

At my age I couldn't run to dinner but thanks for the vote. I like what I've heard about Senator Bernie Saunders. If you have time give it a read
