Is this the true Republican agenda ?
"Unprecedented is the global omnipresence and unparalleled lethality of the U.S. military, and the ambition with which it is being deployed around the world. These bases bristle with an inventory of weapons whose worth is measured in the trillions and whose killing power could wipe out all life on earth several times over. Their presence is meant to signal, and at times demonstrate, that the US is able and willing to attempt to control events in other regions militarily."

I kept asking several people why we have bases in almost every country on the planet. The only logical conclusion I can draw as to why we keep throwing tax money into them; somebody plans on using them eventually.
Scary thought, but it is the only conclusion I can come up with.

Interesting concept to those of us who have railed against, not only the building these overseas bases, at taxpayer expense, but the DODs steadfast refusal to shut any of them down. There would have to be a deadly example made somewhere, though, in order for the world to realize, too late, its peril! Got any ideas?

The power of the pentagon and State department in keeping the facts out of the media is alarming. It transcends political parties and seems immune to the tax cut fervor. Unless and until we figure out how to stop the juggernaut it will lead us to financial ruin or China and Russia will join forces to eliminate this threat.
It is truly the drums of war supported by the hawks who desire world domination. The money being spent could rapidly eliminate the National debt but spending has the side effect of increasing the wealth of the elite.

The bullets for revolution are in the chamber but with a seemingly totally apathetic public who or what is needed to pull the trigger? This take over of the government has taken place without a shot being fired and now the stripping of personal freedoms is under way. Seems as if I have seen this in the past which only goes to show that I have lived too long!

The advantage of age is the realization that this strategy has never worked and will eventually lead to downfall from within or from or enemies. We can also predict an arms race in the near future which we are fermenting.

Your points are well taken, however, the inevitable however, it has worked in the past, temporarily, and the costs in human lives and misery in order to end it are still beyond comprehension. The predicted arms race is being fomented by our own military/industrial complex for fun and profit. I have wondered, in my old age, and having participated in wars hell, what would happen if the powers to be called for a war and nobody showed up? The price we paid then, only to come to this, has become too high.

I believe in a strong military, that said the current situation and spending is out of control. IMO there is no need to have military bases throughout the world. Our involvement in foreign matters have led our ''leaders'' in the wrong direction. We are not the policeman of the world. Are there matters that we should be involved in, yes there are, but many of the things that we become involved in only backfire on us. We have lost to many of our men and women in these involvements, and those that have survived will never be the same. The cost to us in a financial way is staggering, in a human way not comprehensible.
